Author Spotlight: Cynthia Eden

Look who we’ve got! I managed to trick Cynthia Eden into coming back and playing with us! ;D And this time she’s talking about New Orleans, and has some questions for you!

Scream For Me

Hi, everyone! Lime, thanks for having me over for the AAD Spotlight!

I am very, VERY much looking forward to the big Authors After Dark event in New Orleans this August. I love New Orleans. Love the city to a pretty ridiculous degree, so I can’t wait to head back for some awesome reader fun.

New Orleans is the setting for my Fallen books (with Kensington Brava). As Angel of Darkness began, my hero watched the heroine flee through Pirate’s Alley. He perched on the St. Louis Cathedral…and it was there that he made the decision to spare her life. Well, spare her, save her, condemn her…I guess it’s all in how you look at it. 😉

New Orleans has always enchanted me. So much magic seems to hum in the city. And when I realized that I was going to write about Fallen Angels of Death (b/c those guys wouldn’t leave me alone), I knew their books had to take place in the Big Easy.  Come on, haven’t you ever wondered if some fallen angels walk in the crowd on Bourbon Street?

In my next book, Angel Betrayed (due out on 6/26/12), my hero isn’t a good guy—or even a good angel. He’s Sammael—Sam for short—and he’s pretty much been foretold to be the one who will bring hell to earth.  He’s, um, kind of a bad guy. But can’t bad guys be fun?

Ahem…and now this brings me to the title of this post…Scream For Me. I love writing bad guys. Love figuring out their devious layers. Or, in the case of Sam, I love to create anti-heroes that are far, far from perfect beings.  What can I say? Sometimes, the bad boys are just more fun. To celebrate those wonderful bad boys, I will be hosting an Ice Scream Party at AAD—I’ll be hosting the fun event along with fabulous authors Katie Reus, Virna DePaul, and Manda Collins. Everyone will be making cool desserts, playing wicked games, getting cool prizes, and talking about their favorite bad boys or villains. If you’re attending AAD, I hope you can make the party.

And if you’re not attending…then, hey, I’ve got a contest right here.  You can still get a cool prize—and have some villain fun.  I’ll give one commenter a $15 Amazon.com gift certificate AND an autographed copy of Angel Betrayed (as soon as my author copies arrive, I will ship one to you). Want to win? Then just tell me…which villain would you scream for? Who is your favorite bad guy?

Thanks for checking out the post!
Best,
Cynthia Eden

Congrats on the upcoming release, Cynthia. I’m looking forward to visiting New Orleans one day. I would go just for the food alone, but I’m sure I’ll do a ghost tour, too. One of my favorite villains is Magneto from the X-Men comics. He’s a villain to many, but some also see him as a hero and his back story(Holocaust survivor) makes him a sympathetic figure.

Wow! This is such a tough question! I will say Reseph from Larissa Ione’s LODs series! He’s big and bad and who doesn’t love that??

Congrats Cynthia! I’d love to attend, but…I live in Italy. Which sucks, because I’m so jealous of my American fellow readers who can attend all these gorgeous events. Still, if you happen to visit Italy you know you got a fan here! As for (the-oh-so-wanted-and-loved) bad boys…I love Bones (by Jeaniene Frost’s series). I can scream for him, and pretty loud too!!!!

Hi Cynthia – congratulations on your upcoming release. As far as favorite bad guy for a book, it’s so hard to choose. At the moment, I’m picking your Sam. He sounds very intriguing. For a TV villain – Sawyer on Lost played by Josh Holloway.

ADD sounds like so much fun, wish I could go. These are new to me, but sound great! The bad boys can be fun to read! I agree Stryker is my fav villian. Hades from Elisabeth Naughton’s Eternal Guardian series is bad as well.

I wish you could go, too, Laurie! This is my 1st year to attend AAD, but I’ve heard some great things about the event. Next year, I think it will be held in Savannah, GA.

I wish I could go to AAD …would love to visit the Big Easy just for the food..lol

As far as favorite bad guy, I would have to say in movies that it’s definitely Magneto (especially as played by Michael Fassbender in XMEN-First Class..uber sexy!) and in books, it’s probably Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series…he’s sexy, gorgeous as sin and has become very powerful and has no regrets about being a vampire. Thanks for the giveaway!

New Orleans would be a wonderful place to visit, especially with a book connection. There are two fascinating bad guys I’ve seen lately – Loki in The Avengers and Moriarity in the newest BBC Sherlock Holmes series.

Mmm, when I read the question the first one to come to mind is an anime! Vegita from Dragonball Z. He’s so badass and conceited!

Close to that is Stryker and Reseph.

Hehe! My middle boy loves dragonball z. I watched it before it got popular. But yeah, Vegita started out the villian… then in later episodes he hooked up with one of the women on the good side.

    Hi Cynthia,
All the bad guys I’d scream for have been redeemed in one way or another. So I’ll have to go back to Larissa Ione’s first demonica book PLEASURE UNBOUND where we were introduced to Wraith. He was a naughty guy then and I loved him from the get go :). I also loved Niol right from the start :).

I think Dexter from the books by Jeff Lindsey he is a bad boy but a hero too. I think he’s funny and that is sexy.

My all time favorite villain would have to be Lex Luthor especially in the show smallville. He starts off just trying to be a good guy but is so miss lead by his dad that he just tries to out do him. In the end his dad Lionel Luthor is the good guy while Lex tries to take over the world. Always been a huge fan of Superman and Lex Luthor was defiantly one of the better “human” villains of the series

And on the Another note would give anything to visit the places everyone write about it makes the story more realistic and not to mention your imagination is off the charts.

I would choose Loki from the Avengers, he’s a fantastic bad guy. On television definitely Spike is my all time favorite bad guy, especially before he fell for Buffy.

Congrats on the new release! I hope to make it down to New Orleans before I leave the US, but I’m sadly stuck in lab all summer finishing up experiments so I can write & defend my doctoral dissertation… so no AAD. Boo.’

On the telly, my favourite villain is definitely Lex Luthor in any one of his incarnations (he’s the perfect counterpoint to Superman!). Book-wise, that honour goes to Hannibal Lecter… there’s just something so chilling about a brilliant psychiatrist-cum-cannibalistic-serial-killer! 🙂

I think that for most villains the screaming would be obligatory – AAAAAAAAH!

However, the one I would scream FOR would have to be Jeaniene Frost’s Bones. Swoon!!!

I have loved every book so far of yours that I read. I am quite curious about this one since Sam was such a bad guy in the last one. I wonder if I will like him? I wish I could come to New Orleans,it sounds like it would be lots of fun! I will have to talk Nikki Brandyberry into coming with me. 🙂

I know someone up above said Eric was their favorite bad guy but I am going to have to say the same. He is one sexy man and I am counting down the days until True Blood comes back.

In the books, I am a bit pissed at him right now. I just finished her new one.

I really need to visit New Orleans. I have had the opportunity before just didn’t take it – silly me. Because I recently saw the Avengers, I’m partial to Loki at the moment. I see several others are as well LOL

That’s a really hard question to answer. Hmm let me think I think it would have to be Damon from The Vampire Diaries. What? he used to be a really bad guy. Killing people just because he could and even though he’s got a soft spot for Elena..that doesn’t stop him from being a Villain when he wants to be.

One of my favorite bad guys is Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series. He started out evil, and has slowly evolved in to a more romantic hero. Loved his transformation through out the series.

Cynthia, my favorite bad guy is… gosh. Movie wise I loved Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow. In a book … I don’t know. I’m pretty canon to be honest. I’m trying to think of a bad guy turned good – maybe Sebastian in Lisa Kleypas’s Devil in Winter – although I never really thought he was a bad guy. ;P

Thanks so much for visiting with us!
