“Guest Author” & A Giveaway: Alexandra Hawkins

Today marks the very first of my “Guest Author & A Giveaway” series as it were, to take place the first Tuesday of every month. (You can see a line up here.) While Alexandra Hawkins won’t actually be here to guest blog (deadlines, you know), she is generously giving away three books.

It’s totally fitting Ms. Hawkins is my first guest, because All Night with a Rogue is the very first book I read in 2011… and I immediately bought Till Dawn with the Devil and enjoyed both books. I’m so looking forward to After Dark with a Scoundrel (out today!) because the premise is one of my favorites. A Lord of Vice falls for a fellow Lord of Vice’s younger sister. Heh. The whole forbidden love/my [best] friend is going to kill me if I debauch his sister.

Quick interjection – I can’t say this enough… I actually bought All Night with a Rogue well, because it looked good, and the cover caught my eye, but the selling point was the kindle price. $2.99. Publishers – are you paying attention? You should do this more! It got me hooked on a series! While the ebook ofΒ  Till Dawn with the Devil is the same price as the print copy (stupid agency pricing), I made an exception and bought it. And… shame on me I’m going to do the same with After Dark with a Scoundrel. (So for those of you wondering – nope. I don’t get ARCs from publishers, etc.)

… Anyway.Β  Despite the fact that Ms. Hawkins can’t be here today, we should still have entertainment, right? And you know – you have to work for your prize πŸ˜‰ So, up for grabs are two copies of All Night with a Rogue and one of After Dark with a Scoundrel. (I’m just posting the cover of Till Dawn with the Devil because I don’t want it to feel left out πŸ˜‰ Also, blue is my favorite color and it’s my blog.)

What do you have to do to win these beauties? Well, to make all your odds better, there will be three winners. What you have to do, is either tell me – what would you name your own Lords of Vice? It can be actual names, nicknames, or what their vice would be. There are seven Lords of Vice, so you’ll need to come up with seven names or vices. Or… tell me your favorite tale of forbidden love – that ends happily, of course.

Ready? Set… Go!

*NB – because Ms. Hawkins didn’t actually guest today, I have Marie Force guesting here the 15th to be the “official” February guest πŸ™‚ Oh – and, I’ll be using randomizer.org as usual to choose winners… Please let me know if there’s a title you want/don’t want in particular, please, because there won’t be substitutions! Winners will be posted on Saturday, and have until the following Tuesday (Feb 8) to contact me!

Oh, and while Ms. Hawkins was unable to be here today, she did send me the book trailer for After Dark with a Scoundrel. (I know, I know, me? Posting a book trailer? Whaaa? But you know. Author’s choice πŸ˜‰ )

ETA: The fabulous Olivia Gates has a new book out today, To Tempt a Sheikh out today. Unfortunately, she can’t promo it because she lives in Egypt, so check it out, and pass it on!

Hey Alexandra – heh a little late, but thanks for stopping by! I can’t wait for your “real” visit either. And you’ve got a whole year to prepare! πŸ˜‰

And now that the drawing is closed I can muck up the comments with my replies πŸ˜€

I have been looking forward to this book release for a while now. I love the series so far and all the Lords of Vice. I am really looking forward to Frost meeting his match. I hope she really drives him crazy.

Lime — congrats on your first having your first author guest/giveaway! Yea for you!

I really enjoyed Till Dawn w/ the Devil & the tease for After Dark with a Scoundrel that was included so am looking forward to getting to finally read it soon. I’m not good at coming up with clever names, and certainly couldn’t compete w/ Ms Hawkins as she’s come up with some delish ones. But, if I did, one would be Cin. Why? It’s the puppy dog’s nickname (short for Cinnamon) & I’ve always loved that she’s “my little Cin” πŸ™‚ (Since she initially belonged to my (now ex-) bf & he insisted I name her, it somehow seemed appropriate.)

I’m afraid I’m coming up with complete blanks for any new& fun names for the rest ;(

Naturally my preference is for After Dark w/ a Scoundrel, but as I haven’t had a chance to read All Night w/ a Rogue I wouldn’t be disappointed winning it either πŸ™‚

My current favorite story of forbidden love would be Megan Hart’s “Selfish is the Heart” in her Order of Solace series. It is a teacher/student relationship. The hero & heroine butt heads throughout the book. The teacher keeps pushing the student away (for many, many reasons). The teacher is also a sort of priest/monk. Lets just say it’s complicated! LOL It is a great story IMO.

Both of these books sound great! I think I would pick “All Night with Rogue”

I don’t know if I can come up with seven names. Good god woman there will be smoke coming from my ears.

Now forbidden love… I’m all about the falling for best friends sister deal. The men are generally older and supposedly wiser. They try so hard to ignore or fight what they want and of course they’ll be going down in a ball of flames.

It just makes my heart happy when they do.

    Now back to those names/nicknames…
Lord Sin (because how can there not be one)
Lord Masters (cause I like saying it)
Lord Dare (cause it sounds sexy to say in the breathy tone)

Okay that’s all I can think of right now. lol

I love the sister dating brother’s best friend story. Tessa Dare did an awesome job with Lucy & Jeremy in Goddess of the Hunt.

Amazon has introduced me to many new authors with either reduced price or free first in the series book. I’d love All Night with a Rogue, but would be happy with either. πŸ™‚

    Hi Lime!

Not sure what I would name my Lords of Vice, but I just finished Raeliksen by Renee Vincent; two lovers, forbidden by birthright, but driven together by their lust and eventually love for one another. LOVED IT! Not sure if I would say it had a perfect ending, but it was the perfect ending to start the next story!

My favorite forbidden love story (as of now) is the one between the characters in Vampire Academy. A student/teacher relationship with just enough age difference to make it different but not enough to be creepy. Plus the tension is sizzling.

I’d prefer All Night With a Rogue but would take either book with grace. xD

“Debauch”…heh heh heh! I love that word!
I am not a great “namer” so I’ll go for the forbidden loves.
The first thing that pops into my head about forbidden love is the classic “Romeo and Juliet.” And Bella and Edward were kind of a forbidden love story. One of my faves is Karen Robards “One Summer” where a teacher falls for her ex-student.

Angie – the Karen Robards sounds good – two of my favorite high school teachers actually had been student/teacher – and met again when the student became a student teacher and teacher ;D [Complicated, yeah?]
Maybe it’s because I can’t stand LdC, but Romeo and Juliet has never really done it for me. :X

My fave forbidden love (right now) would be Gena Showalter’s The Darkest Passion. An Angel Assassin in love with a Demon possessed man. You know they are going to get together but Oh Man, the journey.

Sasha – that sounds delightful. Also for some reason I’ve been getting a lot of recommendations for angel/fallen angel type movies. Well, I guess because of Andy Whitfield and Michael Fassbender… πŸ˜›

Actual forbidden love happened between King Edward VIII who abdicated the throne for Wallis Warfield Simpson, an American he fell in love with shortly after he took the throne. My idea of the perfect forbidden love story.

My favorite forbidden tale of forbidden love would be The Duke And I from Julia Quinn. I love how Daphne’s brothers are not at all excited about Simon marrying their sister!
The Lords of Vice series sounds really great
Oh, and either book would be great to win!
Thanks for the post and the contest!

I love these sale prices too! Its hard for me to pay the full 7.99 for a ebook thats not printed. So maybe I’m wrong to always expect a discount of some amount, but thats what I feel when it comes to getting the ebook. I too got this as a ebook!

When I heard about these books coming out, I think I found out about it on Goodreads, I think I bugged the author plenty times with ‘when will they be out?!?” and then I wasn’t able to get til recently and had to do some other things and right now am savoring this book. I’m ready to get the ebooks of 2 and 3 as soon as I can! I too think the covers are gorgeous! Its what I think when I read these historicals! Don’t put me in since I plan to get the ebooks like the first one I did.

Now for 7 Lords of Vice’s names! This is harder than I thought! I think I’ll have fun instead!

    Lord Rake
    Lord Rogue
LOL, So I can’t think of 7, so it would be:
Lord Horny (There is actually a book that I read with a group and we ended up calling him Lord Horny, it was Carolyn Jewel’s Lord Ruin. He was absolutely yummy and well, horny, LOL)

    Lord Jim (just because

ooh, John above totally picked a great one! Vampire Academy is a favorite of mine too.
Another forbidden love tale I liked is a movie/musical. I love Fiddler on the Roof and how the 3 daughters break tradition for true love and following their hearts.
btw, I totally agree about the price breaks being necessary for kindle ebooks, especially if it’s an older book and is being set to cost more than a paperback! That’s just crazy to me but I’ve seen it happen. But just this week I bought Joss Ware’s book 1 & 2 because they are on special for $1.99 and $3.99 from Avon. Going to search Amazon now for All Night with a Rogue, so don’t enter me for book 1, I’m gonna buy it in a sec:)
