Favorite Book?

I’ve been having some trouble with WordPress and posts [and life?] so expect some back posts soon…

But here’s my question for you. What’s your most favorite book ever? What about favorite book for each genre? Top five?

Go! (And you never know – I might be asking for a reason… ;))

My most favorite book ever is Hawk O’Toole’s Hostage by Sandra Brown. My favorite book for each genre would be very hard for me to choose.

Becky, oh I’ve never heard of that book, but I’ll have to look it up! Also, I have the opposite reaction πŸ™‚ I think I can name top/favorites for sub genres, but an overarching favorite would be difficult for me to settle upon.

Well, it is hard for me because I have a lot of books/authors that I love and follow, plus I find new ones that it would be hard for me to choose.
My favorite that I mention is one of Sandra Browns older novels. I have own it for a few years now. It might be hard to find, though I’m not real sure.

Calico Palace by Gwen Bristow – read it YEARS ago from the library. Had to get a copy (at half.com for a TON of money). Such a great book!! I have read this more times that any other book (except maybe goodnight moon, but that was a nightly thing when my daughter was young!)

For each genre – that is a hard one! There are so many books/authors that I love and follow, it would be hard to pick.

Susan, glad you found a copy of Calico Palace, but sorry you had to pay a killer price. I’m going to have to look up this book as well! I think there’s something to be said about “earlier” reads and how they stick with us.
Super cute about reading goodnight moon to your daughter nightly πŸ™‚

Mary – I agree with you on the “always subject to change!” I think it might be easier to do a yearly list or group of favorites.
And I have to say I’m super excited to see Nobody’s Baby But Mine on your list. I really like it, but I know it’s a book that polarizes readers.

Match Me If You Can-Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Marika, a top five is great! I’m getting so many suggestions on books to look up, which is terrifying and exciting at the same time.
Have you read all of SEP’s other books? I’m really interested in your choice as to which of hers is your favorite. Isn’t it super cute when Heath’s all “but I love you!!!” πŸ˜€

Betty, oh I’ve never read that Deveraux book! And yes, you definitely hit a wide variety of genres, which is fantastic.
Thanks so much for sharing. I have to admit (should I? :X) I don’t think I’ve read a book by Janet Evanovich before.

And I just realized I missed one of my all time favs.. Robert A Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land. It was required reading in school, and not something I normally would have read. But it’s also the book that made me love Sci-Fi. I re-read it about avery 5 years or so, and love it just as much each time. Being forced to read Lord of the Flies didn’t work out so well for me LOL. That one sticks in my head as one of the books I most DISLIKED!

Favourite romance novel: Any novel by Shelly Laurenston – to pick one favourite just might make my head explode. Go Fetch, Mane Attraction and Mane Squeeze eek out a little ahead though..

Other genres are a little bit easier.
kids/lit To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
    Crime: Hard Candy Andrew Vachss
UF: Mercy series by Patricia Briggs
SF: The Left Hand of Darkness Ursula Le Guin

Edie, I hear so many wonderful things about Shelly Laurenston. I like her books, but don’t seem to reach the level of love most do, which makes me sad.
Oh I love your other genre choices, and isn’t To Kill A Mockingbird amazing? I have to say I love that most people are introduced to this book in school and still love it. The same can’t be said for so many others.

I can’t believe I forgot about Dragon Actually, which might actually edge out the other Laurenstons.. Annwyl the Bloody is the best heroine EVER!

    Going away now. πŸ˜€

Edie- I hope you always come back! πŸ˜‰ And… I haven’t read Dragon Actually – her GA Aiken books right? Annwyl the Bloody might just be the best heroine name ever! I’m definitely going to have to check that out. Thanks!

I am actually quite cautious in reccing Laurenston, with her humour, her bending of the tropes and out there characters; there is room for her to be hit and miss for a reader. But her books hit it out of the ballpark for me every time.

Annwyl the Bloody is an awesome heroine though, and she is throughout the series, just getting better. The dragon books are a bit different from the pride – so they might work better.

To Kill a Mockingbird is just an all round awesome book, and a rare one, that I think it doesn’t matter what age you read it at, there is plenty to resonate with a reader.

hi Lime:) Blogger has been actin’ a fool too.
My “favorite book of all time” actually changes every five years or so, and right now it’s still The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Before that it was The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I’m just really into the drama of dystopics lol.

Bella – I think we should give both wordpress and blogger a swift kick, don’t you?! I know dystopics are huge, but I just can’t get into them :X They depress me too easily. And then I get in my head and am a mess and believe me – nobody wants to have to deal with that :X

Um… at least I know my foibles?

LOL a lot of people have told me this. I’ve noticed that in general there isn’t a lot of cross-over reading between romance and dystopics, but I find them both similar in their strong emotion and so I think that’s what draws me.

Scooper – I’ve heard so many great things about those books, but never read them. I generally don’t go for Scottish romances, but I hear those don’t have the aspects that generally “irk” me. I think I need to try, too because people have told me I’m “dead to them” for not having read Garwood before. Eep!

I tried to read them back to back, but it was too much. The characters are very similar, but every time I read them I smile and feel comforted by the innocent, but brave heroine and the handsome alpha who learns to love and protect her.

That is a tough question to answer. The Outsiders by SE Hinton was very special to me growing up. Probably because it was the first book I read that was set in my area of Oklahoma. I reread that book until it fell apart.

If I had to pick my Top 5 Erotic Romance books they would be (in no particular order):

Dirty by Megan Hart (I love Tempted the most but it isn’t really a romance)
    Relentless by Lauren Dane
Bound, Branded, Brazen by Jaci Burton
    Coming Undone by Lauren Dane
No Greater Pleasure by Megan Hart

Stacie, I LOVE The Outsiders! I need to get my hands on a copy for me… I first read it in 6th grade – and I wouldn’t have discovered it if not for the accelerated reader program… the number of points attracted me somehow πŸ˜›
It’s also a great story. Perfect YA, imho, which… yeah – whole other topic would be how I get annoyed by the “YA is a new genre!” … what?!

Anyway. I love Dirty too. I like Tempted, but I’d say I like Dirty above it. Oooo and I totally love Coming Undone as well! I’ve had some friends dislike it :X but… to each her (or his) own, yes? πŸ™‚

I have read all of SEP’s books at least 3 times but Match Me If You Can is my favorite of her’s for all time. I have re-read that book more times and find something new each time I read it. The ending scene were he goes back to the lake to find her is priceless. I’ve never read a more man in love with someone ever in fiction. It just took him awhile to realize it.

I have read the Spice Brief epilogue to Dirty, and really enjoyed it. They’re a super cute couple. πŸ˜€

As for MMIYC… oh my gosh – yes. I love it when Heath is all freaking out and yelling “I love her!” on the street and “hunting down” Annabelle. And you’re right. It takes him forEVER to realize, but he grovels nicely. Hmm… I might have to re-read it. πŸ˜€
