The “I Have Nothing to Say” Giveaway

I’ve been thinking long and hard about… well, blog posts, the internet, communities, memes, and information. Oftentimes I remark on the incestuousness of the internet – and what I mean is… well let’s not quite go there. But along those lines is when is something “so old” that it’s new again? Or when does something not new go viral with a “Look what I just found!!!!!”?

Basically this is just a post with me being old and curmudgeonly. I definitely don’t begrudge people the joy of finding new things and being excited about. What riles up the bitch in me is when people think that they’ve discovered something entirely new.

I guess I’d just like people to be more thoughtful. But that would take a lot of work and effort. Time too.

And speaking of something a bit different – asking stupid questions online. Be it on twitter, forums, websites, blogs. Sometimes I wish everyone would bust out lmgtfy on everyone’s ass. But I can’t really wish or say that because I have my lazy moments and figure it honestly would (or should) be easier and faster just to ask. And sometimes we should indulge our lazy sides, right?

I’m trying to work up a good rant without being snide. Or too angry. There’s the fact that pretty much every topic has been covered ad nauseum. Recently it’s piracy. What with the “I’m a piracy fighting warrior!” stuff. Good for you. Just don’t jam it down my throat. It has the opposite effect of what you’re going for. (Obviously I’m saying you plural here, in the general “person out there” vagary.)

My point is, you’re preaching to the choir, generally. So, the people who listen and agree will be all “rah rah yeah!” Or… start getting fed up, or they’re people who never gave a damn in the first place and nothing you say matters because they don’t care. Now I’m not saying posts that are educational about piracy should be eliminated. Some people honestly don’t know. But… the book intros or dedications that say like “If you’re a pirate I hope your baby dies. … Oh but uh, if you bought this book, thanks so much!” What!? You might say? But there are things like that out there. And similar posts. Just… *sigh*

So… since the end of this month is being finished up with giveaways, and June is going to have a number of giveaways as well… because HELLO BIRTHDAY BASH! I figure I’ll start it off – and thank you for listening to me rant and bitch with a giveaway. Also because I’ve been grumpy and down. So… might as well do something nice and spread some cheer, right?

Barring unforeseen circumstances, I’ll be giving away three kindle copies of Grace Burrowes’s novel The Heir. It’s the first book from Sourcebooks Casablanca to hit the NYT list, I believe, so that’s super exciting. Note – kindle books. I do my damnedest to avoid the post office.

So – what do you think of internet dramaz? It’s irresistible, isn’t it? But what about the ranting and raving and “zomg look what I just [found]” stuff? Is it all still bright shiny and new for you? Or are you joining me in the back to grouch? [Note – I have drinks and cookies. What? I’m not above bribery.]

Oh! And Happy Memorial Day Weekend to those of you in the States. Doing anything special?

Lime, you can bitch, rant, and complain all you want. I’m right there with you. Some days I just want to tell people to leave me the *&^% alone and stfu. I just seems like all anyone has to say is blah, blah, blah, wah, wah, wah, me, me ,me. As for internet drama..nope..can’t do it. I have friends who post the most personal stuff on FB..fighting with family and friends and trash-talking each other, and I just want to say, “Really? Do you really want the ENTIRE world to know your business?! WTF is wrong with you people?” But, instead I just scroll on by.

So, now that I’ve joined you in ranting, I hope we both feel better 🙂 And I gotta tell you..I LOVED seeing Happy Bunny on your blog. HB is my idol!!! LMAO My wallet is my fav saying….”I just can’t seem to care.”

Lime, I feel just the same as you and Ms. Betty! I mean I even get sick of checking my e-mail because, well, it’s just tiresome sometimes. Its full of e-mails with the same kind of stuff, anti-piracy, etc. Another of my pet peeves is people trying to “cheat” on blog giveaways. REALLY???!!!! If that book (or whatever it is) is that important to you, go buy the &*@#&ing thing!

I enter blog hops and another pet peeve of mine is asking me to go through hoops. I don’t “unfollow” a blog after I enter a contest. I only enter the contests when I like the book/giveaway or when I like the way they run their blog and the things they talk about. It can be anything from PNR, Urban fantasy kinda sites to Mamma blogs and cooking blogs.

Ok, Ok! I’ll stop there because it will keep going! And YES! Happy Bunny is the best! LOL

lol – I’m guessing… you’ve had giveaways at your blog, and people have already started trying to cheat?
… I actually can’t remember if you can leave anonymous comments or not at my blog…
I also don’t jump through hoops or follow blogs. I’ve never done it with blogs I even contributed to, and it feels wrong otherwise. (Also because I just plain don’t want to, and never have.)

Happy Bunny is the best thing ever!!

I ignore the internet dramas for the most part. I can’t work up the outrage to stay angry at people for very long over most things. Piracy is wrong and annoying. But it isn’t personal and you can’t stop all of it. I guess I understand why it bothers some authors, but telling the book pirates they are wrong is fruitless. They know perfectly well that it is.

I just let the authors rant a bit and come back when they are done.

Julia – that’s good. And a great way to go about it. I get annoyed when it’s ALL UP IN MY FACE. And when it’s not authors ranting about it?
Although, piracy pisses me off. I hesitate to say this always because I KNOW some crazy bitch is going to read it wrong/use it against me – but the people who *pirate* books annoy me more [piss me off more?] than those who “just” upload and share them.
      And… that’s what piracy *actually is*…

Bleh. So piracy does piss me off. But the fact that it’s often mislabeled and the soap boxes and high horses are dragged out while… anyway. I’ll stop while I’m not too too far behind. :X

I’m still newish on the contest to win books, and I frankly didn’t know you could cheat at winning a book contest. But then again I am from an older generation too, and people who do stuff like that tick me off.
I get angry when the authors I love get ripped off, and as a reader feel helpless in trying to stop people from doing it.
I love meeting and learning about the authors I enjoy, and tickled when a book thagt I have bought is everything I hope it would be….*S*
Thank you for the contest…and wishing all a Happy Bunny Day!

Thanks, PWJ – hope you’re ok with my shortening your name- I’m so lazy. It’s shameful.
I *LOVE* that feeling when you read a book and you’re all “this made me clap my hands and squee because it was just that good” – I read one such story recently.

Sorry I didn’t answer to your reply and please..no problem shortening the name…Pomma or Darcy is just great..LOL
I’m personally ranting right now because I had to race out of my house after posting on your blog as the neighbor below us decided to use his chain saw without water or safety. So..the Forest Service had to come out with helicopters to dump water for several hours and the fire service here have been sitting on the site all weekend to make sure it is out. I love these guys bless their hearts. I cannot give enough back for the hard work and sacrifice they under gone because of stupid careless people.

I’m glad that it tickles & you squee….as you should. Books bring great joy into my world, and I probably would rant…more if not for the time I get to read.

I hold authors as my all time favorite people and I know that will never change….*S*

I hope your having an awesome weekend too!

O_O Your… wow. I’m sorry you had such a weekend. :X Hopefully that’s your crazy quota for the week and nothing else happens!

I unfortunately, re: books am not the same as you. Even if I love the author over all, or the vast majority of his/her back list… I’ve yet to find one where I like his/her books across the board. *hides*

OMG, I am SO right there with you. The hot button topics drive me crazy. Legacy publishing! ePublishing! Women! Men! Piracy!

Now, here’s the thing. I tend to be on the same side of most of these arguments as the people who get all uptight:

    – portrayal of romance readers by general public? yep, I agree it’s bad.
    – “Legacy publishing?” No one knows what the heck is going to happen to publishing, so stfu and watch for a while.
    – Piracy is bad. Yep. It’s bad.

But. But. But. Enough already. I get sick of it all. Give me information, not drama.

Laura- LEGACY! LEG-AH-SEEEEEEEEE. Right? I think people would just die without the drama. Then they wouldn’t have the chance to spout off and act all injured and others wouldn’t be able to go “rah rah rah!”
Granted, there are some things, I definitely think are worth taking a stand for. And ranting your head off about. Even if it’s over and over. But… others? No. Just… no.

Also, yes, ranting is cathartic online, but it’s also forever. And people judge you!

Obviously that hasn’t stopped me though.

We’re all aloud to bitch & moan or be grouchy as we want on occasion — too much (like dramas) can get old fast. But I don’t think you’ll have any issue there — you’re to fun by nature 😉 to stay down for too long 😉 And you’re allowed to be lazy on occasion too, after all getting all that bitchiness & grouch out of the system can be awful tiring.

Hey, did you mention cookies — chocolate in them?? Cool, have a seat, pass the dish and let’s “sweeten” our up our moods 🙂 We’re all here for you gurl 🙂

I’m still confused over exactly what you are ranting about.. 🙂 But piracy sucks. Also, I’ve found that people don’t take things personal to them unless it’s happening, so while they may be ‘rah rah’ to someone else, when it hits them…. dang, they are fired up!

But I’m all for cookies. I just made brownie bites covered in chocolate so I’m bringing them here to share! (I don’t need the calories!)

I would love a Kindle copy of The Heir though! Great giveaway 🙂

Kristi – would you believe I’m ranting about ranting? And ranting about the fact that I feel like my ranting has been chilled. My first amendment rights have been infringed by the judginess of the interwebz!? [Had to pull it back, otherwise for a second there it might seem like I was about to stumble upon something halfway intelligent.]

OH MY GOSH. Brownie bites. COVERED IN CHOCOLATE?! And you’re not sharing?! *cries* You don’t love me. You hate me.

I live for dramz. But too much dramz and I want to punch people in the face. I want to somehow jump out of their screen as they’re typing their rants about what have you and slap the crap out of them. Ok, rant over.

I was just here cause I heard there’d be drinks and cookies. I’m a sucker for those.

P.S. Please don’t enter me for the giveaway. I’ve already got this book, read it and LOVED it. I guess it’s only appropriate you’re offering drinks. Hopefully it’s lemonade with TONS of sugar. =)

Kati – YES! Yes with the punching. In the FACE! Hahahahaha I kinda wish you could jump through the screen and slap people. … Unless I’m one of those people. Cuz I’ve gotta tell you, I’m super averse to getting hit.

And aweee thanks so much for just stopping by! <3
And yes, lemonade with as much sugar as you want… and vodka… but only if you want it. (But who doesn’t want an adult beverage, right?) 😉

    Limecello,

Nah, usually nobody remembers my name Darcy, and its easier to remember the shortened part of my handle Pomma instead of the long Pommawolf. Years ago I had a real crazy internet troll that used my handle to pose on animal/pet websites. Then people got a lot smarter and they actually paid attention to how this crazy woman posted. I didn’t use my Pommawolf for a long time because of her. I just made it longer by adding my second handle to the first.
But, I finally got brace enough and found out who she really was, and she knows I will post her real name if she starts her trouble again.
Are you talking about he image in the left hand corner of the woman with her face resting in her hands? I found that on an image sharing site about 3 years ago. I use to use my wolf logo with Pommawolf on it, but my daughter told me I needed get a new one…LOL.
If you would like a copy of the image just email me and I will send it to you.

Oh my gosh – that’s crazy, and sucks so much about the person trying to pretend she was you… I’m glad you can do something about it though if she ever tries again.

As for the image, hee – the woman is cool, but I meant the close up of the flower. 😀 I’m all about that, as you can see.

Like real flowers they need to be shared….*S* I love roses and lilies and magnolias and any beautiful purple flowers I find….*S*

lol i think everyone takes a turn and the ranting and raving but some people take it to far publicly. I recently deleted one of my husbands relatives that i didn’t know at all and he didn’t know well so not a big loss but every single days she was ranting and raving about people and family especially. It was like highschool feeling type stuff the way she carried on. Way to much negativity. About 3 days letter she friend requested me again and i resisted the urge to re add her lok
