Emotional Development

And social, if not human development… but the point is I saw this and wanted to share it with all of you. Very interesting. Especially since most people think – and say – “oh, XYZ happened  when the child was so young it doesn’t really matter/isn’t so bad.” It changes things or perspective from a lot of books too, right?

Anyway, I think it applies to older people too – of course not in the exact same way. But anyway… The Still Face Experiment.

I waver between liking babies, and being creeped out by them. I mean I like playing with toddlers, but I guess my biological clock hasn’t been triggered. If it ever will be. But still – isn’t that interesting? Like… whoa.

Also good thing I’m not a mom/have a baby though because I’d be so tempted to try it. >.> Maybe a few times. I mean, just watching the video when the baby is so distressed made me a bit teary. But once you’re past that it’s just so fascinating! Also, crucial in underlining why every aspect of childhood or personhood is so important.

Very interesting, Lime-y. Don’t worry about your biological clock. I don’t have mother DNA. I knew when I was 15 years old that I did not want to have children and as I have gotten older, I realize that was a very wise decision because I am a very selfish person (bitch, even). Same thing regarding a “marriage gene”. It’s not that I never want to get married, it’s just never been a priority for me. To each her own, right?

Thanks for letting me share that.

P.S. The candle you’ve been burning at both ends is running out of wick. It’s okay to be selfish once in a while. (It’s just an observationfrom a concerned blog follower). Take care, you.

Jovi – I think I have an ish biological clock. I mean I want to have kids… maybe — at some point in the future. I think I also have some guilt/pressure because my older sister is adamant about NO KIDS EVER. And I know my parents want them…
Won’t think about that now though.

And – LOVES – yes! Right? There was an author – first thing she said to me was “so are you dating anyone?” It’s hard to be single and say you don’t want to be married or have kids and have people believe you, or not come off as bitter. When really? I seriously don’t want either right now.
*shakes head* For all this culture is so modern and progressive, it’s not. Dare I say especially in romanceland? I like reading about HEAs and love and relationships. Doesn’t mean I’m desperately seeking out my own or using it as a “poor substitute.”

And :X I’m paranoid. Does the candle sputtering mean I’m like going too far or messing up? >.< Gah. What? :X

I’m majoring in Early Childhood Education and a lot of what I’ve studied is about child development, emotional development, etc… What I’m saying is, this video is very interesting to me. I’ve watched a lot of videos of studies done on children. Many people are surprised by how much babies understand about the world and how perceptive they are. There’s so much learning going on during these early stages. Thanks for posting!

Early Childhood Education! Soooo many of my friends in undergrad did that too! 🙂 I took a … childhood cognitive something education development class in undergrad which a friend highly recommended, but when I took it the professor was more gone than than there so it was very different. 🙁 Boo.
And yes! So much more than most people expect! Obviously that baby knew what was going on – the question is how long it sticks with them.
Two minutes, however, thankfully isn’t something too difficult to recover from.

That really was interesting. My daughter is 21 years old now and I remember her being a baby and how much she would react to my emotions. babies really do understand a lot more than we think they do, I think they just can’t express themselves verbally to let us know that.

Oh and on a happy note…guess what? We’re gonna have another baby in the house soon…that’s right I’m gonna be a grandma!

EEEEEeeeee babies! I’m very happy for you, Mary. And congratulations! A grandmother! Now you get to spoil a baby shamelessly and deal with none of the negatives! ;D

Loved the video! I think that all parents should watch or be informed of things like this before they have children. I have 2 and it can be stressful, but I always try to not allow my bad day to rub off on them. I had 1 very young and now have a toddler and it is definitely different. I know a lot more now that I did then. Lol. I agree with you that our behavior and emotions still rub off on people regardless of age. I just think that adults are better equipped to handle it. I am always telling my husband that I feed off of his behavior/emotions. When he was frustrated and angry, I started to feel that way. I have since learned to just ignore him/leave him alone and keep the kids with me and distracted. That is not to say that I do not get that way sometimes and he does the same thing for me. I just get over it a lot quicker. Thought my comment was going to be short. Lol. Thanks for sharing.
