Guest Author & A Giveaway: Alyssa Day

Today we have totally awesome author Alyssa Day visiting with us, and she’s also a life saver. She’s a rock star that saved my bacon at the last minute, so yay Ms. Day!

She answered a few questions, obviously opting for the ALBTALBS style author interview. Without further ado, the questions! (I also gave her a strict time line – kinda like – negative time – so… pretty impressive, huh?)

What do you think is the best commercial of all time?
The Sprint herd of dachshunds commercial. “STAMPEDE!” Cracks me up every time.

What’s the most unique/strange silly skill your possess?
I can sing the French national anthem in French and the national anthem of the Philippines in Tagalog. (!!!)

Did you go to prom? if so – describe your dress. Would you admit to wearing it today, much less actually wear it? 😉
Didn’t go. Was DESPERATELY shy in high school, and was dating an older guy (out of HS). (I dunno, I think if you were dating a  guy out of HS you weren’t that shy… since you had a older boyfriend ;))

What was the first type of alcohol you tried to drink? How was that experience? Do you still drink that?
Beer.  ICK. Hated it. Like some beers now, but more of a wine girl.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions? Either for before you begin a book, while you’re writing it, or around the time the book is released?
Yes, every new release day, my family and I go “visit” my new book at the bookstore and then go out to dinner.  It’s a welcome bit of celebration in a crazy industry.  While writing, I listen to one music CD over and over and over during the mad rush at the end of the first draft. (Norah Jones, Come Away with Me.) I’m like Pavlov’s dog: put that CD on and I start drooling.  Er, writing.

What would you put in your ideal candy bar?
Dark chocolate, caramel, and pecans. And possibly nacho chips & jalapeños.

What tv show do you wish was still on the air?
FIREFLY FOR THE WIN!!!

Did you ever read under the covers at night as a child with a flash light or night light? [So your parents wouldn’t know you were awake?] Ever have any mishaps with it?
YES! OMG, yes! Read The Exorcist when I was only 10 and living in the Philippines and scared myself so badly I had to sleep with the lights on for weeks!

What’s the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to you at school? What about the most embarrassing thing to happen at a conference?
You don’t have that kind of money. (Guys, I think that’s a challenge! Anyone want to start up a fund? :P)

Do you collect anything? If yes, what and why?
I have an involuntary snow globe collection, thanks to my crazy husband. Also, we have a tradition between us that whenever one of us travels for work, we bring the other one a gift to try to win the “Most Tacky” prize. The item must be no larger than 1 or 2 inches tall/wide, so we don’t fill up our house with this crap.  Judd (aka Navy Guy) is currently ahead with the sumo wrestler he got me in Japan.

What’s your favorite hair care product? shampoo, conditioner, and other?
My Paul Mitchell Smoothing Serum. Could never time travel to the past–my hair would be a frizzy mess without it.

If you could be a character in any children’s literature book – which book would you choose, and who would you be?
Prince Caspian. Or Batgirl.

Ms. Day is giving away TWO prizes today! One person will win a print book from her Warriors of Poseidon series and another will win an audiobook to the series! Wow!

So – have you read any of her books? Do you like Atlantis, or Greek Mythology? Does the name Poseidon mean anything to you? Or in general – have any questions to ask Alyssa? Remember, the zanier, the better. Outrageous questions are encouraged! 😀

Alyssa, you are at the top of my list as one of my must read authors. I own ALL of your books and am desperately, impatiently waiting for Heart of Atlantis! No questions, other than why aren’t you home writing more books?!!!

I’m also awaiting Heart of Atlantis but rather impatiently! Love the series!

My silly question is what is your worst travel mishap? (e.g. Once while “someone” I know was traveling to Thailand there were multiple delays and said “someone” was forced with the choice of 46 hours in the same underwear or doing a wash & dry in the airport bathroom…not telling which choice “someone” did.)

Well, being forced to evacuate Japan last year after the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear meltdown with 2 kids, an hysterical pug & 4 suitcases & then being homeless for a month ranks up there pretty high. Also the time my airplane caught on fire and I had to slide down the inflatable slide . . . Or the time another airplane caught on fire in flight and all I could think of (on my way to La Guadeloupe) was that if we went down, I didn’t know how to swim! (I learned how to swim that month.)

Thank you for the prizes, Ms. Day! I haven’t read any of her books but I do love Greek Mythology and Atlantis.

I believe Poseiden is the Greek God of the sea? The most memorable Poseiden, for me, is the Scottish actor who played him in the Percy Jackson movie. Rawr!

What a great interview! So funny. I admit to not having read anything by Alyssa, which is suprising because I adore mythology based books. I do know Poseidon. When we bought our boat a few years ago, we were told if we wanted to rename it, that we had to take the boat out into the water, write the new name of the boat on a sheet of paper and burn it, letting the ashes drift into the water, and the pour out a bottle of champagne as an offering to Poseidon so that he wouldn’t destory us and/or the boat for daring to change the name. Who knew he cared so much? 🙂

My question: What is your biggest food-related guilty pleasure? Mine is pork rinds. What can I say? I’m a southern girl at heart.

Do you have a favorite portrayal of Poseidon? Any favorite Atlantis themed movies? Favorite fish/seafood and favorite way to prepare it? Do you like to eat/have you tried jellyfish?

I really enjoyed this interview. I love movies and books about Atlantis and Greek Mythology. I remember how much I loved the Hercules and Zena TV shows when they were on years ago. Alyssa, I am wondering how you met your out of HS boyfriend and how much older he was. Did you end up marrying him? Lol! Enquiring minds want to know! How many books have you written and where did you get your ideas? I believe I have read one or two of your books and really enjoyed them. Love the pictures of you and your hubby’s collection.

Hi Alyssa 🙂 I first came across your books while I was searching for something new to add on to my addiction authors list and saw that Christine Feehan had a review on the cover of Atlantis Rising which in turn prompted me to buy it. Ever since I’ve been totally addicted! …and impatiently waiting for the next book! My questions are: How does it feel to have another author review your book? Are you nervous about their response? And, being behind the times, I recently found that there was an ebook Alejandro’s Sorceress released in April 2012; I tried searching for it so I can devour that as well but was unable to find it. Is it going to be available again?

I too am a fan of Mythology. In addition to Greek I also enjoy Egypt and Irish mythology.

Alejandro has been the hardest. I was in a depressed mood after Japan and set his book up with a dreadfully dreary premise. Had to toss it all and start over. But FINALLY it will be out next week!!

I love your books and am waiting for the next Atlantis book. Also any news on Alejandro’s Sorceress?
Tell Navy Guy we are all so proud of him and others in the service who keep our country free! Service families give up so much when their family member is serving and I can’t imagine the hardships you all endure until they return.
    Thank you all very much!

    Hi Alyssa,

I am patiently waiting for Heart of Atlantis. I’ve read all the other books in the series and have loved them all.

I wondered how many more books are going to be in this series and do you plan on a book for Poseidon? Maybe a back story on his childhood and what’s happened to him from then until now?

Hi Alyssa, I discovered you when I read the anthology book “wild thing” and enjoyed the novella but then to be honest kinda forgot about it,but when I go to used book stores I always look first for Cynthia Eden and Lauren Dane and your name is right in the middle of them and I realized that you had a whole series of the Atlantis stories,by the time I discovered them it was already on book 4 and book 5 was coming out that week so I decided to wait for it and then have a weekend read-a-thon where I didn’t have to wait a year or 2 for the next book and could just go from 1 on thru,I loved the whole Atlantis theme and while some of them aren’t quite as erotic as I like as you can tell by favorites, cynthia and lauren,,but the stories were excellent so i could overlook that,I love mythology and lately have been reading a lot oh mythology that is more celtic cause I don’t think there is any Greek mythology left for me as I have been reading greek mythology for 27 years tho not in the paranormal sense till your series. Now here is my question for you–do you believe in Atlantis,do you think it ever existed and if so do you believe that it was destroyed by the Sumarian volcano and subsequent tsunami or do you believe that if it was a real place as Plato tells us that they were able to sink to the bottom of the ocean and are still there today?

Hi Sharon. Lauren & Cynthia are friends – you have good taste! Yes, I totally believe Atlantis is real and I can’t wait until it’s finally discovered!

I love Alyssa and her Warriors of Poseidon Series. Alyssa is a must buy author for me. I own every book in the series and even have a coveted signed copy of Vampire in Atlantis that I won. It was the first signed book that I ever got. I can not wait until Heart of Atlantis releases and I want to know who I have to bribe to get an advanced copy, lol. I am also awaiting Alejandro’s Soorceress, but I know that it will be great when it finally comes out and that has made the wait more bearable. Thanks for the chance to win.

I feel Atlantis is very real – the Warriors are real and if anybody says different I will smack them on the back of the head….. well I can dream anyway. When I read your books it all seems very real and easy to become absorbed with!

The thing I know about Poseidon is he’s one of the Greek God, son of Zeus.
    The God of Sea.
I never read any fiction about Greek God, but I look forward to read one 😉 Your book will be a good start 😉

I have not had the opportunity to read any of Alyssa’s books, but love all mythology books that I have read so far! I love to see the different directions that each author takes when writing their world and characters. Gorgeous covers!
What do you like most about writing mythological stories? Do you tend to do a lot of research for your books?
