Reading and Native American Romances/Characters

What’re you reading? Any recommendations for me?

>.> Although … if you know me at all you know I’m extremely picky.

I’m also curious as to whether or not you’ve read romances with Native American characters?

I know Sheri Whitefeather has written a few. She has her single title, and category romances. And there are random ones but I’d like to know if you have any suggestions? After all it is American Indian Heritage Month.

Or in general! Like Into the West remember that?

Into the West

It was a while ago but I want to say a lot of it was based on historical fact. Broke my heart. So anyway, have you ever read or noticed books/TV/movies with Native American [romances]? 🙂

Best native American romance I read was Silken Savage, by Catherine Hart. It’s Old Skool romance, but I really loved the history and the genuine historical detail in the novel.

Best native American historical fiction would be SHE WHO REMEMBERS and VOICE OF THE EAGLE by Linda Laye Shuler. I wasn’t as much of a fan of the 3rd book, LET THE DRUM SPEAK.

The closest I’ve come is Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega (Charles and Mercy are both half Native American). Briggs does cover some of the culture in her books.

Many years ago, I used to read old-skool romances featuring Native American (or often half Native American) characters, but I got so depressed over the prejudice and horrible acts committed by the white characters against them that I stopped reading those. (Our history toward Native Americans really is awful!).

I have found a couple of good UFs that feature Native American characters. Patricia Briggs’ series are great, and I’ve also enjoyed reading the Stormwalker series by Allyson James (Jennifer Ashley) which features a half Navajo heroine. Oh, and I also just picked up two romances by Sarah M. Anderson that feature Native American heroes (the series is The Men of the White Sandy), and Doreen Owens Malek is known for writing category romances featuring Native American characters.
