Welcome to Smithsonian Black History Month AKA SBHM!

Hi friends! Can you believe it’s February already?

February means a lot of things, but at A Little Bit Tart, A Little Bit Sweet (ALBTALBS) it means I’m happy – eager even – to celebrate Black romance authors and readers. And Black History. Throughout the month I’m hoping to have special guests, guests that will write informative posts, etc.

I think it’s really fitting today that the Google Doodle is Carter G. Woodson, the impetus behind Black History Month. There are also a number of resources that I’m going to check out and I hope you do too. I think we could all learn something. Here’s the US Government page, the Smithsonian Page, the National Museum of African American History and Culture Page, and History.com.

At ALBTALBS pretty much anyone is welcome as a guest at any time. It’s just for the Smithsonian Heritage Months I always like and try to highlight the specific celebrated group. Definitely it isn’t a “you don’t have a place here unless or until it is XYZ month.”

So hopefully I’ll have some great content to share with you all … and frankly I hope you – yes you will step up and write a post! Yes! Anyone! I don’t care if you’re not remotely Black in any way, shape, or form. Find someone or something about Black History Month that fascinates you, that you think more people should know about. Tell us about your favorite Black romance authors, readers, or reviewers. It can be as Romanceland centric or not as you like! (And this will be true for all the following Smithsonian Months from here on out!)

You can also check out previous Black History Month posts we’ve had. I’m also really excited about the Decades: A Journey of African American Romance series we’ll be running all year, with one post per month. Keep an eye out for those, and check out the link to see the ones you’ve missed. N.B. I go with “SBHM…” in the post titles because it’s too repetitive and lengthy (in my opinion) to write it out each time. That’s all. Each one is abbreviated.

And of course if you are a Black romance author, reader, reviewer, etc. I would love for you to write a guest post to talk about any and everything you like! <3

Agreed. I think it’s so cool there’s now the NMAAHC <3
I also admit :X when I first saw the construction of the building I was like “… hm” – but recently I saw a picture of it all finished, lit up at night, and it’s gorgeous. <3
